Ellen Hanbidge

A bit about my background

Born and raised in Montreal, I attribute my love of architecture and design to being involved with my parent’s efforts to restore our 1789 stone farmhouse to its original charm. As a teenager, I became passionate working the country auction circuit, honing my bargaining and negotiating skills and I still love nothing more than finding a diamond hidden in among the rubble.

I graduated from Queen’s University with a degree in Math and Economics and a background in computing. In the early 1980s I was swept up in the Toronto consulting world, designing and developing software solutions for a wide range of clients. What I enjoyed most was identifying their needs, creating a plan and negotiating the best solution on their behalf.

But when I started searching for my first home to buy, I was hooked.

In 1986, I earned my real estate license and spent several busy years helping my clients buy and sell Toronto real estate. In my early thirties, I paused from my full time career in real estate to start my family. While my two girls, Elizabeth and Maggie, were young, I completed a Masters degree at the University of Toronto and taught at several independent and public schools.

Once I resumed my real estate career full time, I found my understanding of the various school systems in Toronto was a tremendous asset in helping my clients relocate with school age children. I have since earned the accreditation of ASA - Accredited Senior Agent, to be able to offer advice and guidance for seniors downsizing and transitioning to simpler home maintenance lifestyles. I have also taken accreditation as a Buyer's Agent as well as a Seller's Agent and more recently achieved certification as a Negotiation Expert to hone my negotiation techniques to best protect my client’s needs.

I recognize the advantages of continuing to upgrade my skills and specializations, in order to maintain a competitive advantage.
